How to Adopt

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Mile High Lab Mission! Our dogs are cared for in foster homes—not a shelter—so they can start learning routines, manners, and feel safe while waiting for their forever families. Because of this, only approved adopters can meet our dogs.

Adoption Donation

Your adoption donation helps cover a portion of the dog’s medical care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchip.

  • 8 weeks to 11 months – $475

  • 1–6 years – $425

  • 7–10 years – $375

  • 11+ years – $250

  • Purebred Labs – $525 (any age)

This donation is due at the time of adoption.

What to Expect

  1. Apply Online

Fill out the Adoption Application completely. We require two personal references and a vet reference.

  2. Home & Vet Check + Interview

A volunteer will reach out to review your application, check your references, and schedule a phone interview. We also ask for virtual photos of your home setup.

  3. Meet & Match

Once approved, you’ll work with an adoption coordinator to meet available dogs and find the best fit for your lifestyle.

  4. Take Home Your New Best Friend

When the match is right, you'll sign the adoption agreement and welcome your new Lab into your family!

Need-to-Knows

  • Age Requirement: You must be 21 or older to adopt.

  • Indoor Pets Only: Our dogs must live primarily indoors—no garages, backyards, or outdoor-only arrangements.

  • Fence Requirements: A secure, physical fence is preferred, though exceptions can be made. Let us know your situation in your application.

  • Colorado-Based Adoptions: We do adopt out of state, but adopters must travel to Colorado to meet the dog—no transport or shipping available.

  • All Our Dogs Are Unique: Many of our pups are Lab mixes, and we don’t DNA test. We focus on temperament and health, not breed purity.

Before You Apply

Adopting a Lab is a big commitment. They’re loving, active, loyal—and yes, they shed! Labs thrive on companionship and often don’t do well left alone for long periods. Please make sure everyone in your home is on board and that you're ready for the time, energy, and love a rescue dog requires.

We know adopting a dog isn’t just exciting—it’s life-changing. We’re here to guide you through the process and support you every step of the way.
